Kindle Fire Will Feature Netflix, Facebook And Thousands Of Apps

Kindle Fire Will Feature Netflix, Facebook And Thousands Of Apps

When Kindle Fire customers across the country open their boxes next week, they will be able to choose from several thousand of the most popular Android apps and games, including Netflix, Rhapsody, Pandora, Twitter, Comics by comiXology, Facebook, The Weather Channel and popular games from Zynga, EA, Gameloft, PopCap and Rovio. Kindle Fire customers will be able to download these apps and games without having to register multiple times and using Amazon’s simple and secure 1-Click payment technology. Plus, all apps are Amazon-tested on Kindle Fire for the best experience possible, customers can get a great “paid” app for free every day, and once you’ve downloaded an app from the Amazon Appstore, it’s available on Kindle Fire as well as your other Android-based devices.

Senh: Nice. I briefly looked through Amazon's App Store, and it doesn't look too bad. There are free and paid apps. Plus, you can download a free app each day on Amazon. Not bad.

iPhone Finds Cheating Spouse

How do you like those Apples? An unnamed New Yorker claims Apple's new "Find My Friends" app -- which uses GPS to locate any of your friends that have allowed you access to their location -- led to a stunning revelation: His wife has been cheating on him.

Senh: I call bull. I've heard similar things before with an Android location app, but this sounds really fishy.

Making up: free apps for furious Blackberry users

The BlackBerry has left a bitter taste in the mouths of its users. Trying to make amends for massive outages last week, Research In Motion on Monday promised BlackBerry users free premium apps and a month of technical support. But the apology is unlikely to placate miffed customers, many of whom are considering whether to part with the tarnished brand in favor of more popular devices such as Apple's newest iPhone.

Senh: Users complain that the CEOs for RIM didn't react quick enough, but it seems that it's rare that anyone ever reacts quick enough when things go wrong. Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis addressed the public on the fourth day of the outage. That's not too bad. They have to assess the situation first. I guess in situtations like this, it's always better to over-react. Plus, you never know how bad it is until at least a couple days have passed. "The most important thing is staying connected to the ecosystem and making sure you're on what's the root cause. If you spend more time on PR it's less time finding the root cause," Balsillie said. I agree with that.

Android app downloads could surpass Apple by June 2012

Android app downloads could surpass Apple by June 2012

In a recent study conducted by Xyologic, results show that in 2012 Apple will no longer have the advantage when it comes to app downloads, the Cupertino-based company will be surpassed by Android.

Senh: That's the way it's heading. Android has already surpassed iPhone as the most-used operating system for smartphones. It's just a matter of time before the number of apps catch up.

After long wait, Facebook releases application for iPad, updates iPhone app

One of the big, enduring questions of the technology world: “When will iPad users get their very own Facebook app?” The answer is —now. Facebook is releasing an updated version of its iPhone application on Monday afternoon, one that’s also designed to fill out the larger screen of the iPad. Like the previous iPhone version, it’s free.

Senh: I don't understand the point of iPad apps for websites. You can access the web from your iPad, and the screen is large enough that you don't have to zoom in and scroll.

Facebook changes worry privacy advocates

Users and privacy advocates have expressed concerns about Facebook’s planned redesign, the way the change will affect third-party apps and the network’s general approach to privacy. Third-party apps will be fully integrated into a user’s profile page, with updates about activity on each app. That means that users won’t actively click to share updates from apps — the apps will add that information to a user’s page automatically.

Senh: As long as there's a switch to turn it off, I'm fine.

What MasterCard Learned From Testing Google's 'Google Wallet' App

Following a nearly four-month trial period, Google is taking its mobile commerce application, Google Wallet, nationwide. In a blog post announcing the news, the search giant said it needed the time to extensively test the app, which lets users pay for goods by tapping their smartphones against special wireless readers, which are powered by MasterCard’s contactless “PayPass” technology.

After 25 Million Downloads, Joomla Aims to Expand Into Apps

What was born just before YouTube and Twitter, powers whole websites with open source code and has now been downloaded 25 million times? Joomla! The popular Content Management System with an exclamation point in its name passed a major milestone this month and now says its future will be based on helping developers build all kinds of other apps.

Senh: I only wish Drupal would head in that direction too. This should be interesting. Looks like I'll have to familiarize myself with Joomla! and keep an eye on this. It makes complete sense though. There isn't a cms for apps development. You would have to learn different api's to create apps for Android, iOS, Facebook, or Twitter. If I could use Joomla! to create apps that would work with all of those platforms, it would be awesome.
