Superhero movie The Avengers becomes the first film in Hollywood history to make more than $100m in its second week.

Wow. It certainly didn’t look that way after Thursday’s disappointing midnight screenings, but here we are. “The Avengers” has broken the all-time opening weekend box office record with a phenomenal $200.3M. That’s at least $30M more than the most optimistic projections from box office analysts.

The record-smashing tentpole now has a shot at debuting to $170 million, the biggest opening of all time in North America; the pic has earned $334.3 million internationally for a whopping global total of $414.8 million.

“Think Like A Man,” the big screen adaptation of Steve Harvey’s bestselling book, did suprisingly well at Friday’s box office by grossing an outstanding $12.2M. What's even more amazing is it did it in just 2000 theaters. It could end the weekend with $30-36M. Films targeted at the African-American audience tend to be front loaded, so it could end in the lower end of estimates. Still, what a surprise. "Think Like A Man" received mixed reviews, scoring 49% on the Tomatometer.

"Hunger Games" becomes the first film since "Avatar" to spend four straight weekends at No. 1, while fellow Lionsgate pic "Cabin in the Woods" opens third with $14.9 million; "Battleship" Beat Overseas by "Titanic 3D" in surprise upset.

Very quietly, almost stealthily, a new king has been inaugurated on Broadway. Box office figures released Monday show that "The Lion King" last week swiped the title of Broadway's all-time highest grossing show from "The Phantom of the Opera."

"The Hunger Games" is still the first item on the menu for movie fans, taking in $61.1 million to remain the No. 1 film in its second weekend. Studio estimates Sunday put Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games" well ahead of Sam Worthington's action sequel "Wrath of the Titans," which opened in second-place with $34.2 million.
