"True Grit" seized the reins at the weekend box office with $15 million, taking the No. 1 spot and becoming the first Western to top the $100 million mark since the 1990s.

Relativity Media’s Season of the Witch opened to an estimated $3.7 million from 2,816 theaters at the Friday box office to place No. 3 behind Paramount’s True Grit -- which all but jumped the $100 million mark -- and Universal’s Little Fockers.

Imax, the big-screen movie specialist, said its global gross box-office sales more than doubled in 2010, thanks to additional theaters and big 3-D blockbusters.

Domestic box-office revenues for 2010 won't quite hit last year's record-setting haul, but they'll be awfully close. Total movie-ticket sales will reach $10.556 billion, the tracking agency Hollywood.com said Tuesday. That's a slight decrease from the $10.6 billion total from 2009, but it's also only the second time that the annual box office has crossed the $10 billion mark.

"True Grit" grossed $4.8 million on Friday, but "Little Fockers" held onto the top spot with $5.1 million.

"Tron Legacy" has a very strong start with $18 million on Friday. "Yogi Bear" found $4.7 million and "The Fighter" climbed to third in its initial expansion with $3.925 million.
