Warner Bros. Pictures has released, via Yahoo! Movies, one version of the teaser trailer for director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, coming to theaters on June 14, 2013. There is a second version of the teaser playing in theaters which features Russell Crowe's voice. The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan is producing the film.

Anthony Mackie is in talks to star with Chris Evans in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is likely he will play Sam Wilson aka Falcon in the Captain America sequel.

There was a press screening last Friday and word got out that after the movie was over, those in attendance gave the movie a standing ovation. While standing ovations are not uncommon after screenings, especially as a courtesy to the filmmakers for their work on the final film of a beloved franchise, it was the reaction to the movie that was noteworthy.

There was a press screening for The Dark Knight Rises earlier today and, according to reports, those in attendance were giving the movie a standing ovation when it was over. Standing ovations are not unusual in screenings, especially for a movie franchise as beloved as the Christopher Nolan era Batman movies. It is given as a sign of respect to the filmmakers, and if anyone has the respect of the critics, it's Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale.

My sources say Sony Pictures’ superhero reboot The Amazing Spider-Man opened with $35M (though some rival studios put the number in the neighborhood of $32M tonight). It easily sets a new domestic record for a Tuesday opening – helped by its 3D premium pricing – and is ahead of the original 2D Transformers ($27.8M) that debuted on Tuesday July 3rd, 2007. ”That is one huge number,” a Sony exec gushed to me tonight. “Unbelievable start to what should be a very exciting 6 days.”

Now that the trailer is out for Dredd, I think there's enough footage of the movie to safely pass judgment on the movie regardless of what director Pete Travis and writer Alex Garland may have suggested in their joint statement about withholding it until seeing the finished product in its entirety. “The Dark Knight Rises” may be on the horizon, but Disney/Marvel’s “The Avengers” can now look at “The Dark Knight” in the rear-view mirror. “The Avengers” grossed $20.3-million this weekend to lift its total domestic take to $552.7-million — rocketing it past Warner Bros./DC’s ”The Dark Knight” ($533.3-million) for third all-time in the record books. The Marvel-superheroes-assembled blockbuster is now the most successful superhero film ever.

THE PROBLEM WITH drawing lines for a living is that sometimes, even the comics fan doesn’t follow them back to the beginning. Which is another way of saying: If you don’t know “Herman,” you should remedy that and acquaint yourself. Because prior to “The Far Side” and “The Neighborhood” and “Speed Bump” and other single-panel strips that are labeled/branded as “quirky” or “weird” or “off the wall” (or in the case of my own ol’ syndicated single-panel strip, “warped”), there was “Herman,” which sprung from the unique pioneering mind of Jim Unger.

Disney’s “The Avengers” has earned almost universally positive reviews and made $200 million in its first weekend. Yet for some in the adoption community, a joke in the film goes too far.
