Man wanted for child kidnapping in Colorado found in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — A 60-year-old man and a boy he's suspected of kidnapping from Colorado were found near a southern Utah lake where they had been walking naked after asking for food and water from campers.
Garfield County Sheriff's spokeswoman Denise Dastrup said David Glenn Freeman and the 12-year-old boy were located Monday near Pangutich Lake about 265 miles south of Salt Lake City after an Amber Alert was issued Sunday night in Saguache County in southwestern Colorado.

 

New restaurants poised to replace former Denny's locations in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs could welcome Indian and Asian cuisine as part of a makeover of the area's four Denny's restaurants that closed last year.
A former Denny's at 8125 N. Academy Blvd., on Colorado Springs' north side, is being eyed for an Indian restaurant, said John Winsor, a commercial broker with Olive Real Estate Group in Colorado Springs who's marketing the property. A lease hasn't yet been signed with the potential restaurant's new tenants, he said.

 

New restrooms, playground likely in store for Old Colorado City's Bancroft Park

New restrooms and a playground are likely in Bancroft Park's future as the Colorado Springs City Council considers sending $300,000 to the Old Colorado City anchor for improvements.
As an added bonus, those new restrooms would be open to the public, in contrast to the existing ones that are typically unlocked only for special events, said David Deitemeyer, Colorado Springs' senior landscape architect.

 

2 shot in Aurora, suspect at large

AURORA – The person accused of shooting two people Monday afternoon remains at large, according to a tweet from the Aurora Police Department.
The shooting occurred at 2095 S. Peoria St. – just south of East Jewell Avenue.
Aurora police tweeted that “a suspect is at large but the suspect is unknown at this time.”

Jury selection starts in Fremont County deputy's evidence mishandling case

CANON CITY, Colo. — Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a former Colorado sheriff's deputy charged with keeping evidence from an unsolved murder in a personal storage locker.
Former Fremont County deputy Robert Dodd was charged with abuse of public records and official misconduct after the contents of his locker were auctioned in late 2016 because he stopped paying rent.

 

Gov. Hickenlooper plans to ‘sort through’ presidential decision this summer

For months, Gov. John Hickenlooper has told reporters he’s too focused on being governor to think about running for president.
Now he says he’s thinking about it this summer.
“My wife and I have been talking about it for a couple of months and talking to old friends whose opinions we respect and trust,” the coy Colorado governor said in remarks reported by The Hill newspaper. “We’ll try and sort through it this summer.”

 

UCCS expanding to downtown Colorado Springs

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs announced Monday it will establish a curriculum presence in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, starting with a pilot program in the 2018-19 school year.
UCCS will occupy 5,000 to 6,000 feet in a 25,000-square-foot building at 102 S. Tejon St. Real estate company No’wood Development Group is donating the space and will pay renovation costs, said UCCS Chancellor Venkat Reddy.

 

UPDATE: 12-year-old southern Colorado boy found, Amber Alert canceled

An Amber Alert was issued Sunday night out of Saguache County for a missing 12-year-old boy who may have  been abducted in southern Colorado.
Jacob Rowe, who is 5 feet and 100 pounds with red hair and blue eyes, was last seen Saturday in Crestone, Colorado.

Fire causes estimated $5M damage to Estes Park lodge

ESTES PARK — Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that did an estimated $5 million in damage to a lodge just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
Estes Valley Fire Protection District spokesman Mike Richardson declined to speculate on the cause of the fire Saturday night at Marys Lake Lodge in Estes Park.
But Richardson tells the Loveland Reporter-Herald that there's no sign of foul play.
