Primary ballots due by the end of the day

Voters have less than nine hours left to submit their primary ballots in what El Paso County officials are already calling an "all-time high" voter turnout primary election.
The county attributes the surge in participation to a new statewide policy that allows unaffiliated voters to participate in the primary election for the first time, said Kristi Alfonso, a spokeswoman for the Clerk and Recorder's Office.

2 victims in Colorado Springs-area traffic deaths identified

Two victims of traffic deaths in Colorado Springs within the past week have been identified.
The motorcyclist who police say died June 22 has been identified as 27-year-old Joshua Stannard.
The man who died near the Briargate Parkway exit on Interstate 25 on June 16 has been identified as 61-year-old David Mascre.
Stannard died early Friday after losing control of his motorcycle in east Colorado Springs. He was driving north on North Powers Boulevard when he lost control and hit a curb near the intersection with East Palmer Park Boulevard.

 

Tuesday's traffic: Fatal crash involving airport shuttle van reported on I-25 in northern Colorado

Update 9:40 a.m.
One vehicle in the two vehicle crash on northbound I-25 at exit 239 in Larimer County with one confirmed death and multiple people transported for unknown injuries has been identified as an airport shuttle van.
Northbound lanes are blocked and a detour is in place but there is not yet an estimated time of reopening. Alternative roads are advised.

 

Longtime Colorado Springs professor and military historian wins prestigious award

A popular Colorado College professor known for turning history haters into history buffs has won the prestigious Pritzker Military Museum and Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing.
The award carries a prize of $100,000 and a keepsake gold medallion.

Forecast: Temperatures in Colorado Springs may climb to record highs this week

Wednesday and Thursday may break record high temperatures in Colorado Springs.
The National Weather Service in Pueblo predicts Wednesday’s high to be 96 degrees and Thursday’s to be 97 degrees. The record for both days is 98.
It’s going to be a warm and sunny Tuesday, the high is 93 degrees and cloud cover is limited, according to the National Weather Service.

 

Lights still out Tuesday morning for nearly 50 households

A crash cut power to nearly 4,000 customers in an area east of North Academy Boulevard Monday evening, Colorado Springs Utilities reported.
The lights went out at about 7:45 p.m., and half an hour later, power had been restored to more than half of the affected customers.
"We are aware that your power is out and are working to restore it as soon as possible," the utility said on its website. Power was expected to be restored to all by midnight.

 

Denver's Larimer Square, historic Route 66 on National Trust's endangered list

WASHINGTON — Route 66, Denver's Larimer Square and school buildings in Los Angeles are on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 2018 list of America's 11 most endangered historic places.
The annual list highlights architectural and cultural sites that the National Trust deems at risk from development or neglect.
