America the Beautiful Park fountain again celebrating cycle of water and life

The Julie Penrose sculpture fountain in America the Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs is again - as its inspiration intended - "celebrating the cycle of water and life."
The 4-story-tall steel structure named Continuum, which sprays water as it rotates four revolutions per hour, was out of commission and not operating for four days before city crews repaired it.

Colorado Springs City Council gave initial approval Tuesday to a ban on creekside camping, paving the way for a crackdown on homeless people living along waterways within the city.
The Council voted 7 to 2 to ban camping within 100 feet of the city waterways and concrete drainage canals. A second vote on final approval is expected July 10.

New video evidence leads to dropping of rape charges against Colorado Springs man

Prosecutors on Tuesday dismissed all rape charges against an 18-year-old man after a newly obtained video shows the alleged victim apparently granted her consent - contradicting earlier claims of a violent gang rape.Because he was 16 at the time, nothing in Colorado law would have prevented Uves Dequan Williams from having sex with a 13-year-old girl, provided she was a willing participant, prosecutor Christina Perroni said at a brief hearing. Perroni said dismissing the case was "ethical and just" under the circumstances, even if prosecutors do not "condone" his actions.

 

2 victims in recent Colorado Springs traffic deaths identified

Two victims of traffic deaths in Colorado Springs within the past week have been identified.
The motorcyclist who police say died June 22 has been identified as 27-year-old Joshua Stannard.
The man who died near the Briargate Parkway exit on Interstate 25 on June 16 has been identified as 61-year-old David Mascre.

Voters have less than nine hours left to submit their primary ballots in what El Paso County officials are already calling an "all-time high" voter turnout primary election.
The county attributes the surge in participation to a new statewide policy that allows unaffiliated voters to participate in the primary election for the first time, said Kristi Alfonso, a spokeswoman for the Clerk and Recorder's Office.
