In latest deal, Cog Railway agrees to help Manitou with parking woes

Owners of the Pikes Peak Cog Railway will help Manitou Springs establish 300 to 400 new parking spaces for visitors if the city signs a fifty-year tax incentive agreement that the railway's owners says they need to rebuild and reopen the attraction.
The pact with Oklahoma Publishing Co., which owns the Cog and The Broadmoor hotel, will go before the City Council for a final vote Tuesday night in a meeting that starts at 6 p.m. at Manitou Springs City Hall.

 

Colorado Springs crash douses lights for 4,000 customers

A crash cut power to nearly 4,000 customers in an area east of North Academy Boulevard Monday evening, Colorado Springs Utilities reported.The lights went out at about 7:45 p.m., and half an hour later, power had been restored to more than half of the affected customers."We are aware that your power is out and are working to restore it as soon as possible," the utility said on its website. Power was expected to be restored to all by midnight.Lines were cut after a truck crashed into a utility pole, Gazette news partner KKTV reported.

 

El Paso County voters turn out in record numbers for Tuesday primary

A record-breaking number of El Paso County residents cast their ballots in Tuesday's primary election, according to county officials.
As of about 2 p.m. on Monday, the county Clerk and Recorder's Office had received ballots from 92,251 of its roughly 390,000 active registered voters. Of the ballots returned, 22,883 were from Democrats, 49,071 were from Republicans and 20,297 were from unaffiliated voters.

 

Woman pleads to kidnapping in deaths of Coronado High School teens

A Colorado Springs woman on Monday admitted that she played a role in the abductions of two Coronado High School teens who were driven at gunpoint onto a remote country road before they were each shot in the head over a gang dispute.
Alexandra Marie Romero, 23, pleaded guilty to three counts of kidnapping in the March 2017 shooting deaths of 15-year-old Derek Greer and 16-year-old Natalie Cano-Partida.

 

Representative from U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet to hear concerns in Cripple Creek Tuesday

Teller County residents with concerns or questions about taxes, Social Security, veteran benefits and more will have the chance to speak with a member of Colorado Democratic U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet's staff Tuesday.
A representative from Bennet's office will be available in Cripple Creek on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to speak with constituents. Appointments are required and can be made by emailing John_Griego@bennet.senate.gov, Bennet's office said in a news release. The meetings will be held in the Teller County Office Building at 112 North A Street in Cripple Creek.

UCCS expanding to downtown Colorado Springs with satellite location

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is growing again - this time in the heart of downtown.
UCCS, one of the state's fastest growing universities and colleges, announced Monday it will establish a satellite location at 102 S. Tejon St. in Colorado Springs, just south of Tejon and Colorado Avenue.
