Doug Lamborn wins in 5th Congressional District primary

U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn advanced to the general election Tuesday after a five-way GOP primary that first threatened to scuttle his career in Congress, then drove him to embrace the policies of President Donald Trump.
The Colorado Springs Republican won with 54 percent of the vote in early returns released Tuesday evening. He led his nearest opponent by more than nearly 30 percentage points, giving him a surprise majority and victory in the crowded race.

Red light leads to capture of man accused of pulling gun at The Citadel mall

A man who allegedly pulled a gun on another person at a Colorado Springs mall, then sped away from a pursing patrol car, was arrested when he stopped a red light, police said.
Branden Fox was arrested after a short chase that ended at Bijou Street and Circle Drive after officers spotted his car at Chelton Road and East Platte Avenue, police said.

 

Incumbent El Paso County sheriff opens wide lead over Republican challenger

Incumbent El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder appeared headed toward a second four-year term, opening up a commanding lead over challenger, Mike Angley, in early results in Tuesday's Republican primary.
With 70,708 of the more than 111,171 ballots counted, Elder led by about 10,000 votes, 57 percent to Angley's 42 percent, according to the county Clerk and Recorder's Office.

 

Bremer, Williams leading El Paso County commissioner races

El Paso County commission candidates Holly Williams and Cami Bremer appeared to be on the way to victory in the Republican primary, according to unofficial preliminary results.
As of about 7:10 p.m., Williams, a candidate for District 1, had 10,758 votes, or about 60 percent, reported the county Clerk and Recorder's Office. Her opponent, Calandra Vargas, had about 7,034 votes, or about 40 percent, the results showed.

 

Police release name of weekend shooting victim in southwest Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police have identified the victim of a Saturday shooting in southwest Colorado Springs as 23-year-old Derrick Lamont Lawrence, Jr.
Lawrence was shot and killed early Saturday in the 1700 block of South Eighth Street.
Police arrested 19-year-old Cedric Jamal Jackson on Sunday on suspicion of first-degree murder, but they have not said why they believe Jackson is connected to the killing.

 

Man sentenced to 21 years for string of Colorado Springs robberies in 2017

Christoper Lee Barry, 33, was sentenced to 21 years in prison Monday for robbing several businesses between April 17, 2017 and September 6, 2017, Colorado Springs police said.
Barry robbed four banks, three Walgreens stores and an IHOP restaurant, and burglarized a residence.

An ex-Fort Carson soldier facing the death penalty in a 2016 double slaying was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder and second-degree murder - marking a jury's rejection of allegations that both killings were premeditated.

Fire near Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park quickly doused with fast helicopter response

A quick air and ground attack on a wildfire that started along Transfer Trail below the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park Monday evening, prompting a park evacuation, averted what could have been an extremely dangerous situation.
"The fire covered about 2 or 3 acres, and we were lucky there was not a lot of wind going on at the time," Garfield County Sheriff's Office spokesman Walt Stowe said Monday night.
