New study addresses concerns of communities around Colorado Springs-area military bases

A three-year study on land use compatibility between the region's military bases and their surrounding communities is nearing completion by the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments.
The study examines military operations, transportation, wildfires and airspace, among other issues, aiming to make recommendations to reduce conflicts while promoting growth and public safety.

 

Incumbent El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder on way to second four-year term

Incumbent El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder appeared to have won a second four-year term, defeating challenger Mike Angley by more than 10,000 votes in Tuesday's Republican primary. 
With more than 90 percent of the ballots counted, Elder had 44,378 votes, or about 57 percent, according to unofficialresults from the county Clerk and Recorder’s Office. Angley had about 32,987 votes, or about 43 percent.

El Paso County commission candidates Holly Williams and Cami Bremer appeared to be on the way to victory in the Republican primary, according to unofficial preliminary results.
As of about 7:10 p.m., Williams, a candidate for District 1, had 10,758 votes, or about 60 percent, reported the county Clerk and Recorder's Office. Her opponent, Calandra Vargas, had about 7,034 votes, or about 40 percent, the results showed.

Republican Walker Stapleton and Democrat Jared Polis, two sitting office-holders with high name recognition and lots of campaign cash, dominated their opponents and claimed early Colorado primary victories in their parties' primary races for governor less than an hour after the polls closed Tuesday.
Both candidates were declared the winners by major news organizations and will face off in November.
