Mentor Public Library hosts pane l of small business experts

Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs can get advice from experts in several fields during a small business panel at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 27, at Mentor Public Library's Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.The panel will include specialists in accounting, banking, marketing, signage, insurance, job and site safety, corporate and website images, commercial property and rental, and finance, according to a news release.

 

Kirtland's Village Peddler Festival impresses visitors with variety, quality of arts and crafts

The drive from Wheeling, West Virginia, to Kirtland isn't exactly a quick and short one, but Sherrie and Al Mestrovic have been making that trek annually for the past 15 years or so to display and sell Sherrie's artwork at the Village Peddler Festival."The people are great and the atmosphere is wonderful," said Al, who helps his wife staff the vending space for her Art by Sherrie creations.

 

Leadership Lake County graduates participate in group's first Alumni Day of Service

About 15 alumni of Leadership Lake County gathered at the Madison Public Library on Sept. 15, but they're weren't holding a book discussion group or browsing for selections to add to their fall reading lists.

 

Mentor sets dates for 'Manor Trail Hayride'

The City of Mentor has announced that the "Mysteries of the Manor Trail Hayride" will take place Oct. 19 and 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wildwood Cultural Center, 7645 Little Mountain Road in Mentor.This family-friendly event will feature a DJ, games, pumpkin painting, pumpkin hunt, refreshments and a bonfire, according to a news release.

Lake Metroparks has added yet another amenity to its park system.Beginning Sept. 15, two weeks before bow-hunting season begins in Ohio, a new archery range will open to the public at Hidden Lake in Leroy Township.

 

Mentor Public Library to hold ACT prep sessions

Mentor Public Library#xa0;is offering two free ACT prep sessions this autumn.#xa0;The first session is#xa0;from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 29, and will focus on the English and reading courses.#xa0;The next session is Oct. 6 and it will focus on the science and math sections of the ACT.These sessions provide practical experience for the types of questions students will see on the ACT, and they also offer strategies for test prep that work on other standardized tests, as well, according to a news release.

The Ohio Highway Patrol, in an effort to reduce accidents and keep Ohio's roadways safe, is once again urging motorists to drive safely.September is Safe Driving Awareness month and the OHP is asking motorists to commit to driving sober, focused and buckled up not only during the month but anytime they take to the road.

 

Ohio: Lake Erie future for walleye, yellow perch bright

COLUMBUS, Ohio >> Ohio's Department of Natural Resources says data show this year's hatches for walleye and yellow perch in Lake Erie are above average and portend a bright future for the popular game fish.The agency says a survey by the Division of Wildlife involving bottom trawls at 40 locations in the lake's western basin show this year's walleye hatch was the second biggest in the history of such surveys.

 

Historic Route 20 topic of free program at Garfield National Historic Site

James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor will host a free public program about Historic Route 20 at 1 p.m., Sept. 29. Bryan Farr, president and founder of the Historic U.S. Route 20 Association, will speak and sign copies of his book "Historic Route 20: A Journey across America's Longest Highway.

The Riverside Care Closet was formed to meet a growing need in the school community. Located at Riverside High School, the care closet provides school supplies, backpacks, locker decor, hygiene products, T-shirts, socks, snacks and water to students and families in need.It is made possible through staff and parent donations.
