'Dopesick' author to speak in Mentor

The Lake-Geauga League of Libraries have organized a health fair and author talk with Beth Macy - the writer of "Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors & the Drug Company that Addicted America."It will take place Oct. 17, at Mentor High School's Paradigm Building, 6465 Center St. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

 

Lake County Genealogical Society announces speaker for next meeting

The Lake County Genealogical Society#xa0;announced that at its Sept. 27 meeting Sunny McClelland Morton will talk about "They Survived the Johnstown Flood! Learn how to Reconstruct Your Ancestors' Amazing Stories."In addition to sharing her own family's story, Morton will discuss how to reconstruct fascinating experiences from family history by combining clues from family's knowledge, documents from genealogy websites, good historical research and Googling to fill in the gaps.

 

Men arraigned on charges stemming from Mentor gun store break-in

The two adult suspects that Mentor police say were involved in a July gun store break-in have been arraigned in Lake County Common Pleas Court.

 

Toy Library available at Willoughby, Willowick libraries

The Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library has launched a Toy Library. The W-E Play Toy Library includes more than 70 toys that can be checked out at the Willoughby and Willowick public libraries for 21 days, according to a news release. Many of the toys have been adapted for children with special needs.

 

Western Reserve architect is topic of narrative in Fairport

A first-person narrative of Jonathan Goldsmith, architect of the Western Reserve, will be held at 6:45 p.m., Sept. 27, at Fairport Harbor Library's community room. The historic reenactment of one of Lake County's earliest architects and builders will be delivered by a member of Lake County Historical Society speakers' bureau.

 

Senior living project proposed at Mentor interchange

A corner of Mentor with a long history of development proposals is targeted for a senior housing complex.Beachwood-based Omni Senior Living seeks to develop 5.65 acres southwest of Interstate 90 and Route 615 for a 146-unit project consisting of 88 independent living units within a three-story wing, 40 units in a two-story assisted living wing and 16 units within a single-story memory care wing.

United Way of Lake County's Women's Leadership Council will feature a discussion on "Women in Politics" during their upcoming Speaker Series Breakfast.
